" Baan Kiri is an oasis that you find in the desert, where the garden is lush and inviting - offering plenty of privacy if you need, an element of nature, and provides a layer of green from the hustle and bustle of busy Chiang Mai. The duplex bungalows in a row are charming, with a mix of modern and homey that makes it easy to feel comfortable. I enjoy reading and working from my computer from the nice verandas of my room, or if I am feeling more social then the gazebo in the garden is also great wifi access. Sometimes during the day the road that passes by has traffic of motorbikes and cars passing, but otherwise the sound of birds and the fountain help keep the mind calm.
The owner Tom is a one-of-a-kind host, who goes out of his way to make sure that his guests are well taken care of. He knows all the amazing food spots in town to get your fill of good Thai street food, and is a fabulous cook himself and if you are open and lucky enough then he will prepare some of the best meals you have ever had in your life. He is good at intuiting what you might need before you ask, but also encourages his guests to be straightforward if there are anything else you require. Going in to Chiang Mai city center with his recommendations you will find all the great little spots that can make you feel like a native.
It is not so close to anywhere special - except maybe a small waterfall up the road and a local textile gallery. Baan Kiri is quite ordinary from the outside, but you be sure to find a welcome from the heart of the owner that is genuine and true."

" There are many places to stay in Thailand with tasteful decor, good maintenance, and a peaceful garden (well maybe not that many...) but Baan Kiri has all this as well as a welcoming offer of friendship and compassion. The owner Tom is very flexible and available to meet his guests needs. He will show you the real Chiang Mai including all the best places to eat:) You have the opportunity at Baan Kiri to meet other people as well that may end up being life-time friends. As far as the rooms go, the beds are really comfy and so are the pillows. There is a porch to relax on and a kitchen to cook in. There is basically everything you need, and if there is something else you need Tom will help you get it. Baan Kiri is beautiful and simple, and has a great location just outside of the city.

" Baan Kiri is a beautiful tranquil spot outside the city centre with a view of the mountains. The garden is gorgeous, creating a lovely environment to relax, read and listen to the birds and enjoy the warmth of Thailand.
I highly recommend taking sometime to talk with Tom the owner as he is a true kindred spirit. He can give you advice on all the great spots in Chiang Mai for what ever you are needing or looking to do-he know ALL the best yummy spots to eat! Also, simply take some time to chat with him, he is a very authentic, a real listener and has great insight.
The guest house is really well maintained, the rooms are spacious and bright-I stayed in Mango which is especially so. The beds are super comfy and Mango has a bathtub too. Lots of places to hang out in your own quarters or out in the common area or the garden. I personally think staying here could be the best decision you make for your trip to Chiang Mai!!! You may never want to leave! I know I'm going back! ENJOY! ".

" Baan Kiri is a place where you can feel most welcome, a place to relax and feel comfortable. The atmosphere is serene and tranquil. The room decor is simple but classy. The surrounding garden is a nature oasis, where nature's sounds soothe the soul.
There are no distractions and outside noise is minimal. The setting is just an added bonus because the owner, Tom, will provide you with anything you need, whether it be delicious Thai food, yoga, and knowledge of some of the best spots in Chiang Mai. On top of that, he's a great person to get to know and someone who can offer you great insights. You can have no worries when you stay here because everything runs smoothly and all will work itself out. This is an opportunity you don't want to miss out on, unique places like this one are rare to come by. If you're looking for good quality, this is it! Enjoy! ".

" When traveling in Thailand, I got an impression that a lot of people come to this amazing country and spend their time exposing the riches of this land. And for sure, it has to offer a lot - starting from food, nature, smiling people, beautiful girls, parties, architecture, etc. Thailand is so much touristic, that it takes you a big effort to get though this buzz and come closer to what actually Thailand is.
However, if you are looking for more authentic experiances, Baan Kiri is the definitely the right place to come.
Baan Kiri is a bit out of town, at the foot of the mountains, surrounded by beautiful garden with a small charming fountain - it is so calming just to listen to the running water while laying in terrace in the evenings or early mornings. The city centre is within the reach of 10 min drive, but you should better get a scooter to get around (otherwise you can always ask the owner Tom to get you a taxi if you come just for a day or two).
The cottage type rooms are stylish and spacious with a living area, porch with a bench to hang out more privately, and area for the kichen (you might request for one if you stay for 3 months or longer). All rooms have comfortable beds and private bathrooms (with hot water), also you can use a "public" fridge, toster and water heater to make yourself a small breakfast. It would be a good idea for you to read all staying conditions carefully in the guest house website as different ones apply depending on the duration of your stay (e.g. if you stay for several days only, you will get a free tea/coffee/water too). Free wi-fi is available for all the guests.
Since the place is quite small (5 rooms only) and some of the people stay there for several months, sooner or later you will feel like staying with friends :)
However, besides all mentioned above, what makes this place so special is the owner Tom. He litterally does his best to make his guests happy and he is a real expert in that. He will give you good advices on the things to do in Chiang Mai and Thailand in general. He can help you to set up a plan for your stay, arrange everything or even come together with you to show around - all you have to do is ask! With Tom you might discover local places you would have never found from the guide books and he is the best to advice on the places to eat around the town. However, the very best food I tried in Thailand was cooked by Tom himself, so if you are interested, ask him for a cooking lesson - you will not regret ;) And if your delicious dinner will follow with a Chang/Leo beer and a long chat about life with Tom, you can be sure - you just got into the very heart of the real Thai experiance ;) Just make yourself ready to accept it! ".

" Dear visible man from Bangkok, it was so much & great time here! It did not look like a normal place to sleep, have a lunch or dinner or take information. It was like being at home, with lots of friends, but in Thailand of course!! I am sure that it is a job for you, I mean look after your guests, but it is even your way to be; you are a kindly and friendly person.
You know how to make feel people relaxing and happy as well. I am sure, I will never find another place in my life where people will be kind with me but not will be real how they are. That is what I am trying to say, you were true in your way to spend your time with us.
I hope once you will come to Ischia, and we would try to show you our beautiful place. Our home will be yours as you did with us.
I hope to keep in touch with you by mailing or on Facebook.
One bid kiss and thank you for everything, Annarita & Antonio.

" On my third trip to Chiang Mai I had the pleasure to stay with Tom Light at Baan Kiri. If your looking for your typical tourist trap in the city, bright lights, souvenirs, and lots of noise, don't stay here.
Bann Kiri is just outside of the city at the bottom of the mountain foothills, you can enjoy a quiet night listening to the jungle sounds, cooler temperatures, and still be in the city center within ten minutes.
I've stayed in a few quest house in Thailand and would be hard pressed to find one as good as Baan Kiri, besides the clean rooms, quiet location, and I must say the best massage therapist I have ever encountered (literally across the street), this is the place for me.
The best part is the host, Tom Light, you are the man Tom. There are very few people I have met in my life as memorable as you. You treated me with kindness, respect, and I feel my life is better for knowing such a unique individual as you.
If your expecting the usual amenities provided by big chain hotels, stay away and don't bother Tom, but......If you want to meet local Thai's and world travelers, party in the outdoor cabana (my office) and have an experience of a lifetime, this is the place for you. "

" I would like to highly recommend the Baan Kiri Guest House.
First and most important, is Toms very friendly and helpful ways. The Baan Kiri is just out of town in a nice quiet area and is set in a garden. It is very informal and relaxed. Suits us, 2 ladies not quite so young but we have seen younger people also contented. If I have the good luck to return to Chiang Mai, I will certainly return to the Baan Kiri.
For anyone who is looking to experience Chiang Mai outside of the tourist traps,This is the place to stay.
There is excellent Thai massage available by an experienced lady from over the road who will come and do it on your verandah. Some people hire small motorbikes or tuk tuks and red taxis are readily available on demand.
Thank you Tom, its great here." |

You are the man! You have shown me the best time I have had in years. What can I say, you're the greatest tour guide, gave me the best food I've ever had the chance to eat and also a tremendous massage therapist (Waew).
For anyone who is looking to experience Chiang Mai outside of the tourist traps,This is the place to stay.

" Baan kiri Guest House was more then just a place to stay, I found the guesthouse we stayed in "The Mango room" to be comfortable and it filled all my needs, The bed was really comfortable as seen by the way I spent anywhere from 10-12 hours a day in it.
The gardens of Baan kiri with the fountain, Plam trees, and the papya tree were so Serve, We spent evening in the " Living Room" AKA(also known as) the Veranda.
By stay @ Baan kiri we were able to experience Thailand, Chiang Mai to be exact, as it relly is, Tom you were incredible Tour, you helped us with, Taxi's a motorbike,Where to eat,Where the night life was and how to wash my laundry You took me to Zoe's(Bar) even when I didn't know I was going! Talking to the Tuk Tuk drivers to help me get back to Baan kiri, Taking me to extraordinary places an ordering me food to eat I relly enjoyed the dinners in the living room when you would go down the street to get beer & food. You even found me Yogert!!!.
You are very kind and I could tell you wanted me to have a good time in Chiang Mai and I really did! I will always remember my visit with you. I never expected to have such a good time on vacation, I love your hospitality I never saw anything like it I even enjoyed out visit to the hospital."
Having Waew available anytime for the most incredble Thai massage for 2 hours, was the "icing on the cake" I felt like I was part of a Comunity @ Baan kiri, Thank you." |

" We stayed at Baan Kiri in Chiang Mai for three weeks and we felt right at home there. Baan Kiri is modern and very spacious and comfortable for this category. It’s very clean, it has a tranquil garden and a quiet location outside the city where it’s more green (there’s a small waterfall within walking distance), but still only 10 minutes by motorbike from the trendy Nimmanhemin area. It has a communal fridge and free Wifi.
We really enjoyed feeling at home, having take-away food or home-cooked food on our veranda.
The manager, Tom, is very knowledgeable and helpful with plenty of advice, and took the time for a whole day to show us the sights around the area.
It is however located outside the city proper, and the nearest pickup-bus is quite a walk away, so in case it's your first time in Chiang Mai and you're planning trips into the city to explore the center/ night bazaar/ Sunday market you'll need your own transportation to get around.
The positive side to the location is of course the peace & quiet you have instead of city hustle and bustle and fresh air instead of pollution.
To sum it up, we think Baan Kiri is the perfect place to wind down for a couple of weeks (or longer!), especially if you’ve been on the road for a while and miss the comforts of a home.
We miss the garden already and for sure we’ll be back." |

" We stayed at Baan Kiri for just 3 days on our trip around Thailand and overall I can honestly say it was my favourite place to stay. If you are looking for a truely different and relaxing Thai experience you shouldn't look any further than here.
Located well away from the tourist hussle and bustle, Baan Kiri is nestled down a winding back road, just beyond a selection of fantastic houses, on the outskirts of the city. As you come in the gates there's a little traquil garden area that, like the whole of the property, is meticulously cleaned and cared for. The garden and its seating area form the 'reception' where bottled water is supplied free of charge and toast and jams are available in the mornings.
Each room at the guesthouse boasts a veranda to sit on with lounger cushions for chill out purposes, crisp fresh sheets and even a resident Gecko if your lucky (he'll eat any mozi's that slip through the mozi proof windows and doors). Out the back there is a bathroom with a shower and a toilet and a clothes washing and drying area. All rooms have double locks and the area is extremely safe.
You can book anything and everything through Tom at the reception, and feel confident that you're not being ripped off or scammed into paying too much/ getting a crappy deal. This brings me to my the best thing about this place; Tom, the owner and host at Baan Kiri.
Chaing Mai will always be my favourite place in Thailand for the simple reason that Tom made our stay so special. From the moment we arrived there was a freindly reception and he took time to help us decide what to do and where to go. Better still, there was no 'hard sell' about it. It all came from a geniune desire to help us see the very best that Chaing Mai has to offer. So once we'd booked a couple of things and hired a bike (a good idea to get around), we set off around town with Tom. From partying with the Thai's to chilling out with the locals at a secluded lake to becoming a good friend, Tom was never too busy to help us and it was sad to leave him and Baan Kiri behind even though we only stayed 3 nights!
In summary, we loved this place and we made a real friend in Tom. If you're wanting to go to the same old tourist places that every traveller visits you're probably not going to like it here, but if you really want to get the best out of Chaing Mai then stop off and stay a while to get comfort, service, value for money, fun times and friendship." |

" Thank you Tom for the beautiful time in Chiang Mai. I'm so lucky to meet you and to go to Baankiri and moving away from Walai House. When I did see you the first time my feeling asid I'm on the right place, you're friendly and smiling!
and then that great garden, the room clean comfortable Bed, a perfect place to relax and enjoy!, All my people in Geramany will hear about Baankiri for sure!
Thank you Tom for the thing you have shown me like the Temple, Waterfall or other things normally tourist don't see!
I enjoyed everyday here with you! Thank you also for the great Party and the good clubs. But Thank you for the most importent thing that I could talk with you like a friend over the world nature and life, you have give me a new view! "open your mind-keep out of your box - Yeah!! I will try to do that at my trip - Thank you Tom.

" This is my third trip to Chiangmai and my third stay at Baan Kiri. This time I am staying a month to unwind and relax. Chiangmai is an awesome city surrounded by beautiful hills. Baan Kiri gives you the best of both. It is located in a quiet area just at the bottom of the hills, but the city center is only minutes away if you travel by scooter.
Tom the manager is a really friendly guy and a great host. He'll get a scooter delivered to your doorstep so you can explore the city and if you need things to do or places to go or to eat, he's your man.
The rooms are simple, very affordable and nice, there's a nice garden to chill out in, and you can use the wifi there too. Whenever i come back to Chaingmai this is the place where i'll stay." |

" We had hoped to stay in a traditional house in a quiet spot in the city - Baan Kiri gave us just that, plus the wonderful hospitality of Tom. Even though it was out of the city we didn't lack anything, it was easy to do all the necessary things like hire a bike, do laundry, and most of all relax in a beautiful setting. Our host went above and beyond the call of duty when Sharon was ill (from Dengue Fever contracted in Bangkok!!) and helped us with even the small things. If you want to get away from it all and appreciate good Northern hospitality then please stay here! " |

" My time experiences in Chiang Mai have been memorable for many different reasons. but my time and experiences here have been different from anyone else I know who has visits here and for this there is really only one reasons; Baankiri...but mastly your hospitality and friendship. In years to come I will always remember with a smile as visit to the lake and lunch there, fallowed by the sunset. Our night at the club, so much fun! I feel I have seen much of the'real' Chiang Mai and Thai culture and for this I am forever greatful. Traveller the world over, myfriend, always search for such experiences of a country, poeple and culture and so often there don't fine it, but for me I found it here (or it found me!). I honestly did not expect to get all of this from my stay so I hope we meet in the future again if you ever visit the uk I will be offered if you don't let me know so I can return your hospitality ^ ^ To anyone reading this, embrace your stay here and everthing Tom has to offer as you will find real Thailand and real friendship, more then you could hope for. " Baan Kiri is a homely environment. The rooms are fan only, but the bungalows' design allows decent air flow eliminating any stuffiness. There is a garden and private bathrooms - Thai style (toilet flushed with a dipper, and a shower to wash after use). Please be assured this is quite clean. Tom, the host, is exceptional, and will go beyond the call of duty to help you. The location is quiet, but Tom can take you around by scooter or arrange for hire. The best advantage of this small place is its manager Tom. Tom helps and organize so much to make this stay perfect. Don’t miss the motorbike tour with him.
